Home & Com. Services

Home and Community-Based Services

In Kansas, Home and Community-Based Services are offered statewide to allow individuals with disabilities the support they need to live in the community of their choice. These programs allow people to live in their own homes and make their own decisions about daily activities. Home and Community-Based Services are Medicaid services available to persons that qualify based on an assessment. SKIL provides services through four waivers: Physical Disability Waiver, Frail and Elderly Waiver, Head Injury Waiver and the Developmentally Disabled Waiver.

Self-Directed Care Option
SKIL believes that people should have control of what happens in their own homes. Self-directed care is offered through Medicaid Waivers to HCBS eligible Kansans. SKIL contracts with these customers who want to choose and supervise the person who will provide attendant services in their homes. SKIL assists with getting services in place to empower the person with the disability to have control over the decisions of hiring, training, scheduling and managing the personal care attendant. SKIL then supplies the payroll services that include paying wages, taxes, unemployment and workman’s compensation.

SKIL Choice is a Private Pay Service
For persons who do not qualify for Medicaid Waiver services but need assistance in daily living activities, SKIL offers the Private Pay option. An individual may enter into an agreement to have SKIL provide any of the services offered by the Medicaid Waivers. Services are billed and an invoice is submitted to the Consumer. This is a valuable service to many individuals who want to remain in their own homes and not be forced to live in a nursing home. Private Pay Services may also be used on a temporary basis.
