BIG HILL LAKE— SKIL is an agency that is made up of people with disabilities to provide services to people with disabilities. We advocate to remove the barriers that stand in the way of people with disabilities from living and participating in the communities they live in.

Many of our customers enjoy going out to Big Hill Lake to fish, eat and have a good time enjoying the outdoors. Many people only get that opportunity when we have our annual fishing event.

Kyle, a SKIL customer, is a young man who used to get to fish with this uncle and has fond memories of those trips. Now he goes with his SKIL family. “My uncle George, he’s the one who started me fishing,” Kyle said. “I believe he said it was a good way to calm my nerves. I’ve fished on my own and with family members and with SKIL. I came because I thought it would be fun.”

Ivan, another SKIL customer, said “I just like to fish”. “I grew up fishing and then got hurt, so this is the only time I get to go fishing.” SKIL assists anglers throughout the day, which included breakfast, lunch, a dinner cookout, boating on the lake (if we have enough volunteers with boats) and prizes for the biggest and most fish caught.

The most important part of this day is everyone having opportunities to socialize and enjoy the outdoor
