SKIL has been the owners of the KSEK radio stations since 2004. The main goal in using the stations is to advocate and raise awareness of public issues that affect people with disabilities. Some of the issues related to curb cuts, political concerns, accessible entrances, and more.
The radio stations are also a key component in informing people about the services SKIL has available.
"There are people out there listening to this show right now that may have a family member , a mother, or a father, or somebody that may need something as little as fifteen minutes a day to help them." Mike expressed the reality that many people live with each day. SKIL has the services and people available to assist them in being able to stay independent and remain in the home and community of their choice.
The station in Pittsburg is located in the Meadowbrook mall and easily accessed by people. People are comfortable with entering the Love Bubble, retail store to ask for information and assistance. KLKC is located on Main Street in Parsons and a active member of the community.
SKIL operates eight community offices and two Assistive Technology access sites for people to find resources to do home modifications, personal care attendance services, help with educational plans, employment programs, housing, independent living skills training, peer support, returning to the community from a institutional setting, advocacy, and information and referral.
People all over the state of Kansas can find many of the needed resources including how to fund specific items to how to develop a independent living plan of care by call 800-688-5616 or visiting a SKIL office in their area.
SKIL has an annual event called "My Home for the Holidays!" this year it is scheduled for Friday December 2, 2011 at the Parsons VFW on East Main in Parsons. "Everyone in the sound of my voice is invited." Mike invites everyone to attend. Learn more and tune it at www.sekinfo.com
