We are pleased to say that our open house was a big success. We had supporting members from the Eldorado group, Journey through recovery attend as well as a few potential members. We started with a buffet and then began the guided activities which were guided by our secretary Patricia Hatch. One of the activities was a “kind of get to know you game”. We were each handed a sheet of paper with questions on it.
Some of the questions were “if money were no object where would you like to visit and why? The answers were interesting. One member said he would like to go to Scotland to visit the haunted castles. Others chose equally exotic places. Where would you go to visit if money were no object and why? Another question was “what was the silliest thing you have done” and another member said that on one Halloween they dressed as a vampire with cape, makeup, and everything and then went to see their psychiatrist. What is the silliest thing you have done?
Are you aware that we have started a new organization called a CRO which is designed to provide guided activities and mutual support for individuals who have received or are receiving mental health services. we have club meetings three times a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm on the upper level of the Skil, Inc. building. We have games, but if that is not your thing then just come to hang out for a while with others who are caring, supporting and easy to talk with.

CRO (Consumer Run Organization)
Brighter Days is a consumer organization; meaning it is run for and by its members. The only requirement to belong is you must be receiving or have received mental health services. We meet on the upper floor of the SKIL, Inc building at 1801 Main Parsons, KS from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. We are a self help group benefiting clients of mental health services in Labette County. We are committed to overcoming the stigma of mental illness and helping dispel the stereotypical myths that show all mentally ill people as unpredictable, crazy, or dangerous. Mistaken beliefs like these spread fear and separate the community. In fact, we are no different than you and your neighbors. We may even live next door to you, but you are unaware of us because we do not fit the unflattering stereotypes’. These stereotypes only confuse and frighten people. Mental illness is just that, an illness that requires medication , but it can be overcome. We strive to improve our lives and the lives of others as well asd the community its self, and we do this free of charge. We do not charge anyone for our time or services, but when possible we do accept support from companies and individuals in the community.
Come join us for an open house with free refreshments on September 24th, 2010 between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm, the public is welcome.
You may contact our group through:
