It's that time of year again, and the Independence SKIL office will be holding their annual Customer Appreciation Picnic on Thursday, August 23rd. The event will begin at 5:30 pm and will last approximately an hour and a half. It will be held at the Wesley House, which is located at 200 South Penn in Indy. As usual, there will be something for everyone to enjoy, including food and door prizes (including a 50/50 jackpot).
“These picnics are primarily focused on our customers,” explains Independence SKIL Office Coordinator Jynell McCollum. “It's a time for them to hang out and have fun where we can also provide them with information that is beneficial to their well-being.”
This year's speakers include Chris Mitchell, who represents the Community Missions for Improved Housing.
“We're gonna have games, we're gonna have the American Legion Auxiliary,” said McCollum. “They are going to set up an information booth and try to recruit some new members. There will also be a woman from Neodesha who sells Scentsy air freshener there. We will have lots of people there. Avion, who does hospice care, is supposed to be there with a booth, too.”
The food this year will be hot dogs or chili dogs, with sides of potato salad, baked beans, and cookies.
McCollum said Independent Strides needs direct-support workers, so there will be applications on hand for that, as well. There will also be applications on hand allowing Independence SKIL customers to provide their phone numbers and addresses if they have changed.
