Richard Cox was born in 1938. According to Richard it is a lot better to remember the good times than the bad. Richard enjoys a good breakfast, a hot cup of coffee and a good wrestling match.
“Life is all about attitude. Sometimes life gets hard, but you can learn something from it. I have learned a lot.” Richard remarked as he finished another bite of his fried eggs and bacon.
“If you go through life thinking it owes you something. You won’t get it.” The thing to do is to figure out how you can help others and then you will be helping yourself also. You will be surprised at the number of people you can help.
There are a lot of things about being in your own home and being in charge that are important. Like the two pet dogs Richard has. He commented that they are a couple of trusted friends always close. Sometimes too close, if they get bumped by the borrowed electric wheelchair Richard is using. A visit to the doctor is planned and Richard hopes to get a chair of his own.
Richard says he just can’t figure out why people would want to put someone in a nursing home. “People live longer at home.” Richard says he does do some preaching for his church at the local nursing home. But when he was asked to move in and become the facility pastor, he said he couldn’t give up the exposure to the people around him.
Richard told one story of a gentleman in a facility. The man was in considerable pain but he told the attendants he would get up for dinner. But instead of waiting until dinner time they got him out of bed right then. “I just don’t understand what their idea could have been.” remarked Richard.
Richard now lives in his own house and has four staff members that work for him. He
Is thankful for them all but says Theresa Cerber is the leader.
