Comment Period for Disability and Health Program

Topeka, Ks – The Kansas Department of Health and Environment is accepting comments on a draft for a 5-year plan Promoting the Health of People with Disabilities.  The vision calls for Kansans with disabilities to have access to healthcare and health community environments and have safe, healthy relationships.  Goals include:  Identify and reduce healthcare access disparities for Kansans with disabilities; Decrease health disparities and barriers that Kansans with disabilities have to physical activity opportunities and other effective public health interventions; Reduce bullying for students with disabilities and reduce physical and sexual violence against adults with disabilities while promoting skills for development healthy relationships; and finally Expand disability data surveillance in Kansas by enhancing existing secondary disability data and the Kansas behavioral risk factor surveillance system to more fully understand and meet the needs of Kansans with disabilities.  Comments need to be sent to KDHE Disability Program Coordinator Jamie Lloyd Simpson by October 12th at This email address is being protected from spambots.
